IMPORTANT TIPS:
Do I need a head shot?
Absolutely ! Your head shot is extremely vital - it is your calling card, it’s the first thing casting directors will see & there’s never a second time to make a first impression. You do not need to spend a fortune - if your budget does not allow for professional headshots, a well lit smart phone photo can suffice. The most important thing is that your headshot looks like you with your current look. Colour photos are usually best. Keep it fresh and current.
What about my Showreel?
Along with your head shots, a show reel is vital in being considered for castings. Think of it as a digital audition -you only get one chance! A reel must be in link form only, youtube is best and most commonly used but most companies accept Vimeo, Dropbox etc. Material should be no older than 6 months. Include all your genres and skill sets. Group footage can be distracting and is best to avoid unless you are the featured performer and easily recognised.
SHORT & SWEET - Your reel should be 2-3 minutes max! Casting Directors are way too busy to sit through anything longer. Keep it short and sweet. Put your best stuff up front, and include all your genres including but not limited to: technique (kicks, turns, leaps), jazz, commercial, hip hop, partnering, tap) Vocal reels should show range & varying styles, ie Broadway, pop, rock, contemporary) and be separate to your dance reel. Acrobats, aerial and tumbling can also be a separate reel. You must be the star of your own reel!
